More About Me

Passionate, Qualified and Caring with Over 20 Years of Travel Experience

I began my career in travel as an apprentice at the young age of 16.  I remember the time fondly, I worked with a really supportive group of women who helped me discover a lifelong passion for travel.  I worked in store a few days a week learning how to search for and book holidays… back then it was very different to how it is now.  A lot of working out prices from brochures, calling to book and a good old computer system that once you’d used a couple of times you saw it in your sleep! Think of those dialling up squeaky tones for internet access and all paperwork was handwritten… gosh I sound so old 😂

The rest of the week I spent in a classroom environment working towards widely recognised qualifications in the industry.  I would travel to another branch that had more room with a number of other trainees and we would have lots of fun whilst learning airport codes, accommodation abbreviations and starting to understand the importance of customer service.

After a few years of working my way up and becoming an assistant manager I decided it was time to spread my wings and I went for a full day assessment day to become a holiday rep! I remember having to prepare and deliver a presentation for the interview, participate in group activities and take a test as well as a one-on-one interview.  It was full on and a real challenge which made me even more proud when I received the call to say I’d got the position.

My first season began in April 2006, I turned up at Manchester airport not knowing anyone or what I was letting myself in for… but I soon bumped into a fellow new rep and before I knew it I was in Menorca with a bunch of new reps about to start an intensive training course before ‘going live’ at the start of the season.. I loved it, I worked hard, partied harder and had some of the best experiences.  I went on to spend a winter season in Lanzarote, the following summer back in Menorca then went off to Egypt for my final season.  Those few years were some of the best of my life and I’d encourage everyone to try something similar.  It really helped me develop my professional skills, build my confidence and adapt to different situations.

After returning back home I worked in a bank for a bit but soon decided I needed to get back into travel and from there I gained more experience in a few different roles before settling for 10 years in a high street agency where I quickly became the manager after joining.  During this time I was lucky enough to enjoy some wonderful new destinations through work, a couple of trips to Croatia, an amazing few days sampling the club life in Ibiza and an eye opening trip to Dubai to name a few special trips.  I’ve also been introduced to cruising and spent a few nights on the worlds current largest cruise ship which was absolutely incredible.

After having a year out and our third baby, it was time to get back in to the Industry that I love and still having many people asking for travel advice, I thought what better way then for me to set up as an Independent Travel Associate and here lies the birth of WILSON WANDERLUST part of the Inspire Group giving me the opportunity to offer bespoke holiday packages to the those who like me, have a real sense of Wanderlust.
